Description
Monuments to William Hoddinott, Jane Bellis, Catherine Chavasse, and J A Chatwin are located approximately 30 feet northwest of the Church of St Bartholomew in the churchyard. This group consists of three notable tombs from the 1840s and one from the early 20th century.
The first tomb is for William Hoddinott, who passed away in 1849, featuring a Gothic tomb chest adorned with quatrefoils on the side panels. The second is for Mrs. Jane Bellis, who died in 1843, designed by Jarvis of Edgbaston; it is a Baroque-style sarcophagus with large volutes at the corners and topped with an urn. The third tomb is for Mrs. Catherine M Chavasse, who died in 1842, characterized by a concave-sided square shape with a shaped top that carries a flaming urn. Lastly, the fourth tomb is for J A Chatwin, an architect who lived from 1830 to 1907; it is a stone tomb chest featuring a cross-and-foliage pattern on the top.
