Description

The Superintendent's Office at Rotton Park Loop Canal Maintenance Yard is a building dating from around 1845, constructed from red brick. It features a hipped slate roof, which has been reclad in asbestos tiles, and has deep eaves. The building has a rectangular two-room plan and stands two storeys tall, with a four-window south front. This front includes large two-centred arch windows and a doorway located to the right of the centre, which has a continuous brick hoodmould course above it. The left-hand window on the ground floor was originally a doorway, and the original window frames have been replaced with plate glass, while the doorway has been fitted with a 20th-century plank door. There are straight-headed windows on both the left and right ends, with the left end displaying the cast-iron number 94. At the rear of the building, there is a covered dock attached. The interior has not been inspected. It is noteworthy that Rotton Park Loop was originally part of James Brindley's Birmingham Canal from 1768, which was later improved by Thomas Telford around 1827.
