Description
The crane at Rotton Park Loop Canal Maintenance Yard is a late 19th-century structure located on the edge of the canal, southeast of the Superintendent's office. It is a cast-iron, hand-powered crane featuring a geared drum mounted on a revolving post, with a tubular jib approximately 5 meters long supported by iron-rod stays. The crane is set atop a circular brick plinth. The Rotton Park Loop was originally part of James Brindley's Birmingham Canal, established in 1768 and later improved by Thomas Telford around 1827.
