Description

The workshops and stores at Rotton Park Loop Canal Maintenance Yard were built in the late 19th century. They are constructed from red and blue brick in English bond and feature a gable-ended roof that has been reclad in asbestos tiles, with small brick axial, gable end, and rear lateral stacks.

The building is a long rectangular structure, single storey, with seven windows that have cast-iron multi-pane designs. The windows on the left are round arched, while those on the right have segmental arches. There are segmental arched doorways with plank doors, along with three wide doorways. The doorway to the left of centre is open and has the main roof extended down as a canopy supported by timber posts, which have shaped plank valances on the sides. At the rear, there are multi-pane cast-iron windows set in segmental arch openings.

The interior has not been inspected.

It is noteworthy that Rotton Park Loop was originally part of James Brindley's Birmingham Canal, established in 1768, and was improved by Thomas Telford around 1827.
