Description
Nos 37 and 39 Church Street are a pair of buildings constructed in 1898 by T W F Newton and Cheatle, designed in an Arts and Crafts style. They are built of brick and stone, topped with a green slate roof. The buildings rise three storeys plus an attic and feature four bays, with the outer two being narrower and slightly projecting.
On the ground floor, there is a cement-headed entrance located beneath an arched hood, which is set against a square window. This is flanked by two large casement windows that have roll moulding and a keystone, followed by another entrance similar to the first. The first and second floors each contain one window, two two-light windows, and another window, all positioned beneath a stone band. The roof features a series of flat-headed dormer windows, arranged in the pattern of two and single-light windows in the sequence of 2:1:2:1:2.
