Description
No 98 Bristol Road is a substantial villa from around 1840-1850, part of the Calthorpe Estate, and includes an accompanying coach house. The building is two storeys high and has a stucco façade with five bays. It features a hipped slate roof with boxed flat eaves and corniced stucco chimneys. The ground floor has a channel that extends up to the first floor sill band. The first floor has plain sash windows, while the ground floor retains marginal glazed sashes with cornices supported by acanthus leaf consoles. There is an enclosed Tuscan pilastered porch with round arched side lights, an oak wreath decoration on the frieze, a moulded cornice, and a blocking course that returns to the wall, capped by anthemion acroteria. The ground floor extends to the right as a screen to the coach house, which has a side door and segmental arched doors, with the channeling designed to resemble voussoirs of the arch.
