Description
No. 2 Speedwell Road is a detached red brick villa built between 1840 and 1850, featuring stucco dressings. The front is symmetrical with three bays, and there is a recessed one-bay wing that contains a gig house on the ground floor. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, with a moulded bed at the flat eaves and flanking chimneys. The villa has revealed sash windows that are topped with flat stucco arches and have stucco sills. The heavy stucco doorway resembles a porch and includes an impost string and key to the arch, along with double consoles supporting a dentil cornice and blocking course. The recessed wing has a similar window on the first floor and segmental arched doors for the gig house on the ground floor.
