Description

This is a large, late 19th-century building, dating to 1885, located on Wake Green Road, Moseley. It is treated as a single composition and notable for its varied architectural motifs and skyline. The building is constructed of brick with some decorative sham timber framing, and has a tiled roof with decorative ridge tiles. The entrances are distinguished by centred arches above the doors, containing five-light windows with Gothic tracery, surmounted by ogee-shaped panels depicting lush foliage. A bay window projects to the left, while a canted bay window is present on the right, both rising through two storeys and topped with battlements. The ground and first floor windows are primarily sash windows, with some featuring cut brick panels above or beneath them, and others incorporating shields and foliage in the window heads. A corner tourelle is located at first and second floor levels on the left-hand side, while a square turret with Gothic detailing rises on the right, topped by a pyramidal roof. Between these features are three black and white gables of varying widths and heights, another rectangular turret with Gothic detailing, a tall freestanding chimney stack, and a polygonal projection containing a window oriented parallel with the facade.
