Description

This is a former house, dating from the 1870s. It is constructed of common brick with red brick and stone dressings, and has slate roofs. The building is three storeys high with a basement, and originally comprised five bays, with the second bay projecting forward and the fourth bay creating a tower. A weathered lintel band runs along the basement, a sill band to the first floor, and a bracketed cornice sits above. The windows vary in design, most featuring mullions and transoms. The third bay has five-light windows with traceried heads. The second floor is recessed behind a pierced balcony, and the window above has a hipped dormer. The tower includes an octagonal turret with a rounded top stage and a conical spire, and a clasping buttress. The main entrance features a Tudor arch with continuous mouldings and a Tudor flower, alongside arched panelling above. The top storey has glazed quatrefoils, and the top parapet has been rebuilt. The second and end bays have timbered gables with decorative bargeboards and painted terracotta diapered infill. A projecting stair window on the right-hand wall displays elaborate Tudor Gothic tracery in red sandstone. The garden front features overhanging wooden balconies on brackets, and the basement projects beneath a balustraded terrace.
