Description
Offchurch Bury's stable block, located approximately 30 metres northwest of the main house, is a stable block likely built in the mid-18th century. It features a stone ashlar plinth and red brick in Flemish bond, topped with an old plain-tile hipped roof and various brick stacks. The building has an L-shaped plan and consists of a two-storey, seven-bay main range with a two-storey, four-bay cross-wing to the right.
The main range is arranged in a 3:1:3 pattern, with a central round archway that has chamfered stone quoins and a keystone. The ground floor includes round arches with a stone string-course at the impost level, and there are various plank and stable doors within the arches. The first floor features two-light casements, with those in the centre and to the right having segmental brick heads. The central bay projects and is topped with a pediment gable that includes a clock face. An octagonal cupola with a lead dome and wind vane sits on the ridge.
In the cross-wing to the right, there is a carriageway to the left of centre with a brick basket arch, which has panelled doors on the rear side. The ground floor includes round arches to the left and to the right of centre, while the first floor has two-light casements with segmental brick heads. The interior has not been inspected.
