Description
The Retreat House is a house dating from the early 18th century, with later additions at the rear. It features a painted plinth and is constructed of red brick with painted chamfered quoins at the ends. The roof is an old plain-tile half-hipped design, and there are various brick stacks at the rear. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a five-window range.
The central entrance consists of a sash door with an overlight that has decorative glazing bars. This is framed by a painted eared architrave surround, complete with a keystone and a pulvinated frieze at the cornice. The ground and first floors have 12-pane unhorned sash windows, each with flat brick arches featuring keystones and brick aprons. The centre window on the first floor has a painted architrave surround and a keystone. There are brick aprons at the eaves and a painted cornice. A segmental-headed full dormer is located at the centre of the roof, featuring a 6-pane sash window. The interior has not been inspected.
