Description

Number 5-15 comprises a terrace of six early 19th century houses, later altered with mid-20th century attic dormers. The houses have pinkish-brown brick facades and Welsh slate roofs, with cast-iron railings. They are three storeys high with attics and basements, and feature twelve first-floor windows, two to each house. The first floor has 6/6 sash windows throughout, with sills to two windows on the right-hand side (No. 15); blind boxes are present at Nos 7 and 9. The second floor windows are 3/9 sashes, all set in plain reveals with tooled architraves. Ground floor entrances are on the left-hand side, leading to six-panel doors with overlights containing glazing bars; the entrance to No. 11 is boarded up. The doorcase to No. 5 includes engaged fluted Egyptian columns, a frieze, and a cornice. All other entrances, except for No. 13, have distyle Doric porches with engaged pilasters, architrave, frieze, and cornice. The facade features two canted bays (to Nos 5 and 7), each with three 1/1 sashes and Egyptian colonnettes. Otherwise, windows are tripartite with 6/6 sashes between 2/2 sashes in plain reveals and sills; a blind box is at No. 9, and inserted casements are present in two houses to the right (Nos 13 and 15). Basement windows are 3/6 sashes in plain reveals, with 4-panel and part-glazed doors. The rear of the property has 8/8 sash windows. Interior spaces retain original joinery, including panelled shutters. The attached railings, which are missing to the left of No. 5, have bars with spear and ornate-spear finials, and stick balusters; those to the right (No. 15) have anthemion finials to newels.
