Description
Villa La Rochelle is a villa built around 1834, with later additions and alterations. It features pinkish-brown brick in Flemish bond, with painted stucco on the front facade and right side, a Welsh slate roof, and a cast-iron verandah. The building has two storeys and three first-floor windows, arranged around a central hallway plan.
On the first floor, there are 6/6 sash windows with horns set in plain reveals with sills. The ground floor has a continuous roll-edged step leading to a central entrance, which consists of a three-panel door with an overlight featuring glazing bars. The tall 6/6 sash windows with horns on the ground floor also have plain reveals and sills. The roof is hipped, and there are tall end stacks with cornices.
The continuous verandah on the ground floor has scroll motifs on the struts and frieze, along with a glazed roof. Inside, there is a marble fireplace in the left room on the ground floor, along with ceiling roses and cornices. It is reputed to have an original fireplace on the first floor. Villa La Rochelle is part of an architectural group with No. 123 Radford Road and No. 217 Leam Terrace.
