Description

This is a pair of houses located on Russell Terrace in Royal Leamington Spa, built in the mid-19th century and subsequently altered. The houses are constructed of pinkish-brown brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with painted stucco front facades to the main range and a painted brick facade to the right range. They have a fish-scale Welsh slate roof.

The main range is three storeys high with three first-floor windows, featuring a two-storey, single-window range recessed to the right. The outer bays of the main range are gabled, with the central section slightly recessed. A plinth is present, along with a moulded and chamfered first-floor sill band. The first floor features two 6/6 sash windows and one 4/12 sash window, all set in chamfered reveals with hoodmoulds. The ground floor has a recessed central entrance with a four-panel, part-glazed door, featuring cusped lancets, within a 4-centred opening. There are also 6/6 sash windows with chamfered sills, in chamfered reveals and with hoodmoulds. The right-hand range has a 6/6 sash window on the first floor and a 6/6 sash window on the ground floor, all with chamfered reveals and cambered arches. A four-panel door with tracery to the upper panels is set within a 4-centred, chamfered arch on the left side of the range.

The main range features decorative bargeboards to the gables and shaped kneelers, along with tall left and right stacks with decorative bands. The side range also has decorative bargeboards. The interior of the houses has not been inspected. Russell Terrace was laid out in the late 1820s and 1830s.
