Description

A pair of houses, now a rest home, was built around 1831 and subsequently altered. The construction is predominantly pinkish-brown brick with a painted stucco facade, topped by a Welsh slate roof, and includes a cast-iron boot scraper.

The houses are three storeys high with a basement and attics and feature four first-floor windows. The ground floor exhibits horizontal rustication. A first-floor band supports fielded pilaster strips at the outer ends, with one strip missing on the left side. The first floor has tall 6/9 sash windows in plain reveals, each framed by a tooled surround, frieze, and cornice. The two windows on the right have acanthus modillion brackets. The second floor has replacement casement windows. Plain reveals are found on the two left windows, while the two to the right have moulded sills and surrounds.

The entrances are located below the second and fourth first-floor windows, accessed by a flight of steps - the left steps are roll-edged – leading to part-glazed, part-roll-panelled doors. The overlight to the right door has four panes, with a fielded-pilaster surround. A frieze and modillion brackets support a hood above. Similar canted bay windows flank the entrances, each featuring a 4/4 sash between two 2/2 sashes, with Egyptian columns in between and a frieze and cornice above. The basement has a 3/6 sash window with margin-lights to the left, and a variety of casements, an 8-pane French window with divided overlight, and a board door. Dormers have been added to the attics in the 20th century.

The interior remains uninspected.

Leam Terrace was developed between 1828 and 1836, with most of the buildings on both sides, including those fronting Willes Road, completed by 1841.
