Description
Numbers 48, 50, and 52, with their attached railings, form a terrace of three houses, now used as flats, built around 1831, with subsequent additions and alterations including attic dormers from the mid-19th century. The construction consists of pinkish-brown brick with a painted stucco front facade, topped with a Welsh slate roof. A cast-iron balcony and railings are also present.
The houses are three storeys with attics and basements, displaying six first-floor windows arranged in a 2:2:2 pattern. The first floor features tall 6/9 sash windows with plain reveals and moulded surrounds, a frieze, and a cornice. Second-floor windows are 3/6 sashes with plain reveals and sills, accompanied by a double frieze, cornice, and a blocking course. The ground floor exhibits horizontal rustication. Steps lead to the entrances on the right side, where part-glazed and three-panel doors with overlights incorporating glazing-bars are set within fielded pilaster surrounds with a frieze. Ground-floor windows include six/six sashes with margin lights, along with one two/two sash, all with reveals and sills. The basement level has an eight/eight sash window to the left, while the remainder consists of glazed doors and casement windows. Tall ridge stacks rise from the roof. A continuous balcony, featuring a heart-and-anthemion motif, runs along the first floor.
The interior of the properties has not been inspected.
The railings flanking the steps are embellished with decorative spear-head finials. Leam Terrace was established between 1828 and 1836, with development along Willes Road largely complete by 1841. The terrace forms an architectural group with numbers 30 to 42 (even).
