Description
62 Leam Terrace is a villa built around 1834 to 1838, with some later alterations. It features pinkish-brown brick and a painted stucco front facade, topped by a concealed roof.
The building has two storeys and three windows on the first floor. The first floor includes a band supported by four Tuscan pilasters at the ends and between the windows. The windows are 1/1 sashes set in plain reveals with moulded surrounds. There is a double frieze, cornice, and a blocking course. The ground floor has a plinth and horizontal rustication.
The central entrance is accessed by four roll-edged steps leading to a four-panel door flanked by pilaster strips and sidelights with glazing bars. Above the door is an elliptical overlight with decorative glazing, all within a distyle Tuscan porch that has engaged pilasters, an entablature, and a blocking course. To the left of the entrance is a 1/1 sash window, and to the right is a canted bay with three 1/1 sash windows. The end stacks are tall on the left with a cornice, while the other stack is truncated.
The interior has not been inspected.
Historically, Leam Terrace was laid out between 1828 and 1836, and by 1841, both sides of the street were nearly fully developed. Nos. 54-66 (even) and No. 2 Farley Street form an architectural group of villas.
