Description

Cumnor Lodge is a villa built around 1834 to 1838, with later alterations. It features brick construction with painted stucco facades, a concealed roof, and a cast-iron verandah. The building is two storeys high and has three first-floor windows, with a recessed, two-storey entrance bay on the left. The main range displays horizontal rustication on the ground floor. The first floor has a band and 4/4 sash windows with margin-lights, set in plain reveals with chamfered surrounds and sills. There is a frieze, cornice, and a blocking course with copings. On the ground floor, there are three 6-pane French windows with divided overlights, all featuring margin-lights in plain reveals. The continuous verandah is supported by posts with a rod-and-anthemion motif and has a double-oval balustrade. The entrance bay has steps leading to a 3-panel door flanked by sidelights and an overlight with decorative glazing-bars. Above the door are two pilasters with a pair of round-arched lights between them, which have a continuous sill and support a tented pediment. A stack is located at the right end of the building. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, Leam Terrace was laid out between 1828 and 1836, and by 1841, both sides of Willes Road were nearly fully developed.
