Description

Number 8 is a house dating from approximately 1818 to 1836, with later additions and alterations including a third storey. It is constructed of brick with a painted stucco facade and has a Welsh slate roof. The house is three storeys high with a basement and has two windows on the first floor. The first floor has 6/6 sash windows within plain reveals and sills. A moulded cornice runs along the top of the first floor. The second floor has 6-pane casement windows. Six steps lead to the entrance on the left-hand side, where there is a partly glazed, round-panelled door with an overlight, set within panelled reveals with an architrave and cornice. The ground floor and basement feature a canted bay window; the ground floor section has a 6/1 sash window with margin-lights between two 2/2 sashes, with pilaster strips, a frieze, a cornice and moulded sills; the basement has a central 6/6 sash window, together with a plank door. The interior of the house was not inspected. Attached to the property are lancet area railings. Regent Street, originally known as Cross Street, was laid out as part of the early development of the new town between 1808 and 1814, with the first houses in a terrace being built around 1814.
