Description
No. 7 Portland Place is a villa, now converted into flats, built between 1824 and 1836 with later alterations. The building features pinkish-brown brick with a painted stucco facade, a Welsh slate roof, and a cast-iron balcony. It has two storeys, a basement, and an attic, with three windows on the first floor. The first floor includes 6/6 sash windows, a cornice, and a low parapet with a central pediment that contains a 3/6 sash window. The ground floor is accessed by six steps leading to a central entrance, which has a recessed three-panel door with an overlight, set within a distyle Roman Doric porch featuring plain Doric engaged pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. The building has end stacks, and the balcony above the porch displays a circle-and-anthemion motif. There is a small 6/6 sash window on the right gable. The interior has not been inspected. Portland Place was laid out in 1823-1824.
