Description
Number 14 is a house dating from approximately 1824 to 1828, with later alterations. It is built of pinkish-brown brick, with a painted stucco facade, a Welsh slate roof, and cast-iron porch and railings. The house is two storeys high with a basement and has two windows on the first floor. The ground and first-floor windows are 6/6 sashes; the first-floor window on the left is lower and narrower. There are four steps leading to a side entrance with a part-glazed, panelled door set within a pilastered surround, and this entrance is sheltered by a porch with scrolled cast-ironwork. A 6-panel door is located at basement level, alongside a 3/6 sash window. The building features a frieze, cornice, a low parapet, and end stacks. The interior has not been inspected. The property has railings to the sides of the steps and across the front facade, with a gate to the basement featuring bars with anthemion finials. Portland Place was laid out in 1823-4, and Number 14 is part of an architectural group including numbers 4–14 (even) Portland Place and numbers 52 and 54 Grove Street.
