Description
Byfield House and its attached walls date back to 1732, with some alterations made in the late 19th century and a one-bay addition to the left side. The house is built from regularly coursed ironstone and features a late 19th-century brick splayed cornice. It has slate roofs, with blue brick end stacks that include a string course and oversailing cornice, while the left range has a red brick end stack. The building has a central staircase plan and stands two storeys tall with a four-window range. The left range is slightly lower and has a shallower roof pitch.
The entrance features a late 19th-century half-glazed moulded panelled door with an overlight, along with a moulded panelled intrados and a hood supported by iron brackets. The windows are 4-pane sashes with irregular rendered surrounds and painted chamfered stone lintels. On the right return side, there is a datestone with a sunk panel and the initials R.H.M. The gable is adorned with a stone splayed cornice. The interior has not been inspected. The attached walls, which are also made of 18th-century coursed ironstone rubble with a tile-coped top, are located to the left and rear of the house. The wall to the left features a plank door and has three blocked openings with wooden lintels.
