Description
Rose Cottage is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed from ironstone rubble, with the front and right side featuring colourwashed imitation ashlar render, while the left side has a gable that was rebuilt in 19th-century brick. The roof is covered with concrete tiles, and there are brick stacks at the left end from the 19th or 20th century, along with an older brick ridge stack. The cottage has a two-unit through passage plan and stands two storeys high with a three-window range. The left corner includes a large buttress. The entrance features a part-glazed six-panelled door with a wooden lintel, and there is a late 19th-century painted wood open porch supported by chamfered posts and brackets, adorned with scalloped bargeboards and a cross bar. The ground floor windows are three-light casements with horizontal glazing bars and painted wood lintels, with a similar single light window to the left. On the first floor, there are old two-light windows with glazing bars, and large painted stone sills are present throughout the building. The interior is noted to have some chamfered beams.
