Description

Holroyd Farmhouse and the attached wall are located in Napton on the Hill and date from the early 18th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid and late 19th century. The farmhouse is built of regularly coursed ironstone, while the later additions feature Flemish bond red brick with buff headers. The roof is tiled and has coped gable parapets with moulded kneelers, while the additions have slate roofs and brick end stacks.

The farmhouse has a two-unit plan that extends into a complex L-plan with a wing at an angle on the right side at the rear. It is two stories high with an attic and has a four-window range. The early 18th-century section features a moulded plinth and a two-window range of two-light casements with numerous glazing bars and painted wood lintels. The mid-19th-century range on the right has a splayed plinth and includes a moulded four-panelled door in the left corner, leading to an elaborate trellis porch with a round arch and a flight of four steps. The windows include 16-pane sashes and a 12-pane sash above the porch, all with painted shouldered and chamfered stone lintels.

The irregular range to the right has a lower section of coursed ironstone and an upper section of brick. The left part features a 16-pane sash with a painted wood lintel, while the right gabled section has a 20th-century casement. The left return side has blocked three-light and attic two-light ovolo-moulded stone mullioned windows with hood-moulds. A late 19th-century wing has segmental-arched one-light windows on the first floor facing the road. At the rear, there is a blocked three-light window.

The attached wall at the rear wing is also from the early 18th century and is made of coursed squared ironstone with a stone slate coped top. The interior has not been inspected.
