Description
Ash Cottage and the adjoining cottage to the right are two cottages located on High Street in Napton on the Hill. Ash Cottage, on the left, dates from the mid to late 18th century, while the right range and adjoining cottage are from the early to mid 19th century. The cottages are built from coursed ironstone rubble. Ash Cottage features a thatched roof with stone stacks at the left end and a brick stack at the right end. The right range and adjoining cottage have a moulded stone cornice and a dentil cornice, which may be made of terracotta, and a slate roof with a brick end stack.
Ash Cottage has a two-unit plan and a one-unit range, standing two storeys high with a four-window range. The entrance is on the right side of the main range and has a 20th-century multi-panelled door, along with an open timber porch that has a large low thatched roof. The windows are three-light casements, while the one-window range features two-light casements, all with a single horizontal glazing bar. The adjoining cottage has a plank door on the right and two-light casements, with larger windows on the ground floor that have multiple glazing bars and painted wood lintels. The interiors have not been inspected.
