Description
37 and 38 Sheep Street are two townhouses that have been converted into shops and dwellings. They were built between 1818 and 1819, with some later alterations. The buildings are constructed of brick and feature a slate roof with brick end stacks, reflecting a Georgian style.
The structure has three storeys and a five-window range. At the top, there is a modillioned brick cornice. The main entrance, which is round-headed and located to the right of the center, is framed by an architrave leading to a six-fielded-panel door. There are also flanking entrances that feature doorcases with fluted pilasters and bracketed open pediments, along with overlights that have decorative glazing bars above a half-glazed door and a six-flush-panel door.
On the ends, there are two large 20th-century bow windows with small-paned glazing. The upper floors contain windows with sills and rubbed brick flat arches over 12-pane sashes, while the second floor has 6-pane sashes. The right return of the building incorporates some timber beams.
