Description
Compton Cottage is a house that likely dates from the early 17th century. It features a cruck frame and is constructed from coursed ironstone rubble. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with 20th-century asbestos. There is a renewed brick stack on the left side of the building. The cottage is a single storey with an attic and has a two-window range. The entrance facing the road has a plank door framed with moulded wood and a wooden lintel. To the right of the door is a casement window with a wooden lintel. In the attic, there is a renewed casement window also with a wooden lintel. On the right side, there is a renewed casement window to the left, also with a wooden lintel, and a renewed door to the right that has a 20th-century hood. The attic features two renewed 20th-century half-dormers. Inside, there is an inglenook fireplace with a stop-chamfered bressumer and a bread oven, along with a stop-chamfered beam and partly renewed joists. A cruck truss with two blades is visible on both the ground and attic floors, along with purlins and a plank door with strap hinges.
