Description

The Old House is a house dating from the early 18th century, which was partly rebuilt in 1949. It is constructed of squared, coursed ironstone with coped gables and features a stone slate roof with stone ridge stacks. The building has two storeys plus an attic and a three-window range, following a three-unit plan.

At the center right, there is a 20th-century, three-storey gabled porch with a plank door set within a 4-centred surround. Above this door is a mullioned window that continues around the sides, with additional three-light mullioned windows on the second floor. On the ground floor, to the left, right, and center, are 20th-century three-light leaded casements, while the first floor has two-light leaded casements. All windows feature lintels with keyblocks, although those on the ground floor have been renewed. The roof is adorned with three gabled dormers, which are also hung with stone slates. The left angle of the house has a deep chamfer at the first-floor window level. A two-storey double-gabled range is located at the rear.

Inside, there is a 17th-century inglenook fireplace with a 4-centred bressumer that is chamfered with stepped stops, along with chamfered stone jambs. The interior also includes an old salt cupboard, a bread oven, and a fireback dated 1494. The spine beams feature stepped stops, and there is a further 4-centred stone fireplace with moulded spandrels.
