Description

The Old Rectory is a house dating from the late 18th century, with earlier origins in the 17th century. It is constructed of ironstone ashlar and squared, coursed rubble, with a storey band and coped gables to the right side. A moulded eaves cornice runs along the top of the building. The roof is slate, with a brick ridge and end stacks. The plan is based on four units. The main entrance features a six-panelled door with an overlight within a moulded wooden surround. To the left of the door is a four-light mullioned window with ovolo moulding and a chamfered wood lintel, now faced in concrete. Two-light casements are located to the right of the door on the ground floor, each with a lintel and keyblock. Further two-light casements are present at the first-floor window openings. A 19th-century gable end to the right features three-light casements with segmental lintels. Inside, a chamfered beam with an ogee stop can be seen on the first floor of the left-hand range. The roof contains 18th-century trusses with chamfered purlins and run-out stops.
