Description

A row of six cottages, dating to the early 18th century, with later alterations. The cottages are constructed of squared, coursed ironstone, with stone coped gables to the left end of the row. The roofs are a mix of 20th-century tiles, asbestos, and thatch, with brick ridge stacks. The cottages exhibit a 9-window range and have both 2-unit and 1-unit plans. Cottages 1, 6, and 7 have 20th-century doors, with a 20th-century porch to number 1. Cottages 2, 3, and 4 have 19th-century plank doors, all with wood lintels. Windows are 2- and 3-light casements to both floors, with wood lintels to the ground floor windows. The interiors of cottages 1 and 2 feature chamfered spine beams; those in cottage 2 have stepped stops. The interiors of cottages 4, 6, and 7 were not inspected. It is believed the cottages were formerly barns, likely converted to residential use in the early 19th century. The buildings are included on the list for their group value.
