Description

Hobdays is a house, dated 1709. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with quoins, and has a stone slate roof with ashlar ridge and end stacks. The house has two storeys and an attic, with a three-window front. It has an L-shaped plan. A 20th-century plank door is set within a chamfered wood surround, with an original wood lintel. To the ground and first floor on the left, there is a three-light casement window with 20th-century leaded lights. Hood moulds and label stops mark the positions of former mullioned windows. The ground and first floors centre and right contain three-light mullioned windows with a double chamfered surround, a hood mould, and label stops. A small, chamfered leaded light is located centrally on the building. A moulded datestone on the first floor centre right is inscribed with "S/IM/1709" in bas relief, with a moulded hood above it. There are three 20th-century hipped dormers. At the rear, there are two two-light mullioned windows with double chamfered surrounds and hood moulds with label stops. A buttress is also present at the rear, along with an 18th-century range featuring two- and three-light casements. A 20th-century lean-to is situated in the angle. The interior includes stone flagged floors in the lobby and a room to the left. There are chamfered spine beams with ogee stops. Two open fireplaces have stone surrounds, one with broach-stop chamfers. There are also chamfered timber bressumers, 18th-century plank doors, and a winder staircase.
