Description
This is a cast-iron milepost, likely erected around 1818 and reinstated in 2023. It is made of cast-iron with wrought-iron detailing.
The milepost features a cylindrical-fluted base topped by a tall, fluted cast-iron shaft that has decorative bud-like forms on the lower section. The shaft is adorned with wrought-iron scrollwork arms that include simple acanthus leaf embellishments. These arms hold a wooden place name board from the early 21st century, as the original board is no longer present. The board indicates distances of 1 mile to Shipston and 9 1/4 miles to Stratford, with a total distance to London noted as 83 miles at the top of the shaft, which also has additional acanthus leaf decorations.
