Description

This is a house, later used as a bank and offices. The core of the building dates to the 17th century, with a front range added in the early 18th century, and further alterations made in the early to mid 18th century. The front of the building is timber-framed with whitewashed brick infill, while the front range is of colourwashed brick, featuring a brick string course and a plaster eaves cove. The roof is tiled, and there are brick stacks. The building is in an L-shape. It has two storeys and an attic, with a five-window front. Corner piers are present. The entrance has double doors and an overlight, set within a mid-19th century plaster doorcase with simple pilasters and a heavy entablature. A window to the left is surrounded by a mid-19th century plaster frame. The ground floor has 20th-century windows, while the first floor has four-pane sash windows with gauged brick flat arches. A carriage arch to the right leads to a range with thin framing and a 20th-century casement window above. At the rear, more of the timber framing is exposed, and there are two timber-framed wings with 19th-century brick additions. A side entrance features a panelled door, a reeded doorcase, and a hood supported by shaped brackets. The interior includes a fine, mid-18th century dog-leg staircase with leaf-scroll strings, turned balusters, and a panelled dado. The half-landing has two round-headed panelled doors with architraves.
