Description
The Royal Oak Inn is an inn dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed from colourwashed brick and features a brick dentil cornice and a hipped tile roof with brick stacks. The building has a U-plan layout and consists of two storeys and an attic, with a three-window range. A brick porch at the front has double-leaf six-panelled doors set in a bolection-moulded wood surround. There are two canted bays from the 19th century, which have casements with glazing bars. The lead flat roof of the bays and porch extends across the entire facade. On the first floor, there are three-light wood mullion and transom windows beneath shallow segmental brick arches. The building also features three hipped roof dormers with two-light leaded casements. The interior has been altered. At the rear, there is a red brick stable range that was originally separate but is now incorporated into the inn.
