Description
No. 26 High Street is part of an inn that has been converted into a shop and dwelling. It dates from the 17th century, with the front being refaced and heightened in the mid-19th century. The building is timber framed, with some lath and plaster infill, and the front range is made of colourwashed brick featuring a brick string course and a dentil cornice. It has a slate roof and a brick chimney that is only visible from the rear. The structure is L-shaped, standing three storeys tall with a two-window range. The late 20th-century shop windows include glazing bars, and there is a plank door with a basket arch leading to a through passage. The upper floors have sash windows with brick flat arches. At the rear, some framing is exposed, and there is a 19th-century brick wing. Both the through passage and the interior showcase exposed framing. Nos. 26, 30, and 32 were formerly known as the Talbot Inn.
