Description
30 High Street is part of an inn that has been converted into a shop and dwelling. It dates from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid and late 19th century. The building is timber framed with lath and plaster infill, and the front range has been faced or rebuilt in colour-washed brick, featuring a brick string course and a dentil cornice. It has a slate roof and a brick chimney. The structure is L-shaped, with three storeys and a two-window range. The late 19th-century shop front includes a central 20th-century door with an overlight, two bay windows, and a fascia that extends across the entire facade, supported by pilasters at each end. The entrance on the right has double-leaf doors and an overlight. The first-floor windows are sashes with segmental brick arches, while those on the second floor have painted wood lintels. The rear wing displays exposed framing on the right side and a corner post, with the end wall rebuilt in brick. There is a 19th-century red brick range that was likely originally separate but is now incorporated into the building. Inside, the ground floor features broad-chamfered ceiling beams and stone flat winder stairs. The first floor has ceiling beams, some of which are boxed, and a two-panelled door. There are 20th-century additions to the rear. Nos. 26, 30, and 32 were formerly known as the Talbot Inn.
