Description
Broom Hall is a house that has been converted into a hotel. It dates from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century. The building is timber framed, featuring close studding and plaster infill on a stone plinth. It has a 20th-century tile roof and two brick ridge stacks. The original layout of the house is not clearly defined.
The structure has two storeys and an attic, with four rendered gable dormers that have shaped bargeboards and a four-window range. The entrance features a late 19th-century four-panelled door in a 'Queen Anne' style, set within a carved wooden doorcase and accompanied by a late 19th-century porch. The ground floor includes early 19th-century tripartite sash windows with glazing bars, while the upper floors have late 19th-century casement windows with glazing bars.
The left gable displays close studding and small framing above, while the right gable has wider studding and larger framing, both of which are filled with whitewashed brick. Inside, the building has undergone significant alterations, but it retains a subsidiary straight flight staircase from the late 16th or early 17th century. A large brick addition was added to the rear in the late 19th century.
