Description

The Grange is a house dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with alterations and additions made around 1806. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with some brick patching, while the addition on the left is roughcast. The roof is tiled and features a wood dentil eaves cornice. The building has a two-unit plan that has been extended to three units and stands two storeys high with a three-window range. The entrance includes a six-panelled door with a moulded wood architrave. There are 19th-century iron casements, and a two-storey bay on the left has wooden casements. An external chimney breast is located on the left gable.

Inside, some timber-framed partitions are exposed, and there is a straight flight staircase. The open fireplace in the left room has two bressumers, one positioned high and the other, which is larger and more recent, located below. A date of 1806 has been recently revealed. The room on the right was extended in the late 20th century into a single-storey link to a stable, featuring pine panelling with large fielded panels, possibly early Georgian, brought in from elsewhere. There are also late 19th-century additions to the rear, and roughcast was removed from the front in the late 20th century.

The stable, originally separate, is now attached on the right by a single-storey stone wing. It dates from the 17th century and features timber framing with whitewashed brick infill and a tiled roof. The stable has two bays and two stable doors at the rear, with good framing that is complete and exposed on three sides. The fourth side is also complete and visible from inside the house.
