Description
Ivy Stores, Church View and The Old Malt Shovel comprise three houses, one of which has been converted into a shop with a flat above. The buildings date back to the 17th century, with later additions and alterations including work from the 18th century and the mid-to-late 20th century. They are constructed of reddish-brown brick, painted to the front facade, rendered in part to the returns, and incorporate timber-framing. Weatherboarding fills some areas, and the roofs are covered with plain tiles. The buildings have an irregular cross-plan, with a gable end facing the street.
The front facade is of two storeys and has two windows on the first floor and one on the ground floor. A segmental section infill is visible on the left side. 20th-century windows are used throughout; the ground floor features two multi-pane shop windows, the one on the right incorporating a part-glazed door. The first-floor window on the right has an elliptical arch above it.
The return to the left is a single-storey structure with attics. Centrally positioned 20th-century doors are found on either side, with a canted bay window flanking each door. Four attic dormers are present. The return to the right presents a substantial range with small, square panels of timber framing.
The interior of the rear range retains evidence of original timber-framing, including an exposed wall plate and beams.
The listed buildings on The Green form a group.
