Description
This is a row of five headstones located approximately 2 meters east of the chancel of the Church of St. Michael. The headstones date from the mid and late 17th century, and the early 18th century, and are made of carved ironstone. Two of the mid-17th century headstones feature shaped tops, with one having a scrolled design and sunk panels. The central headstone, from the late 17th century, has a broken segmental pediment, swag, fielded panel, and volutes, with an inscription dedicated to Mary Cheetham. On the right, the early 18th century headstones include one with a head and elaborate swag, and another featuring two winged heads and a polygonal cartouche. These headstones are included for their group value.
