Description
Ivy Dene and Clefs are two houses dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. They are built of coursed squared ironstone rubble, featuring late 20th-century ribbon pointing. The buildings have three roofs at different heights, covered with slates in the center and artificial slates on the sides, which have coped gable parapets. There are stone end stacks on the roofs to the center and right.
Each house has an irregular two-unit plan and stands two storeys tall, with each having a two-window range. Ivy Dene, located on the left, features a wide basket carriage arch with voussoirs in the central range. The entrance to the rear, accessed through the arch, has a late 20th-century door. The left side has late 20th-century casement windows with a painted wood lintel on the ground floor and a stone flat arch above. There is also a rear addition from the 18th or 19th century.
Clefs, on the right, has a late Tudor arch door in a single-storey range. It features stone-mullioned windows, including a fire window on the right and two two-light windows on the left, both with hood moulds. There are also two late 20th-century three-light mullioned windows on the ground floor, which also have hood moulds. The interior has not been inspected.
Attached to Clefs is a former stable or malthouse that has been converted into garages, topped with a slate roof. There is an upper door in the gable end facing School Lane, which has an external stone staircase.
