Description

Blacksmith’s Cottage is a house, dated 1794, with possible earlier origins. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone with quoins, and has stone-slate roofs and stone end stacks. The house has a 3-unit plan. The front elevation is two storeys high and has a three-window arrangement. It features 2- and 3-light casement windows with wood lintels to the ground floor centre and left, and stone flat arches over the window on the right. A plank door is located at the rear, protected by a wood lintel. A datestone with a moulded hood, situated at the centre of the first floor, is inscribed “M/IM/1794.” A large 20th-century extension is visible to the left. The interior is said to contain spine beams.
