Description

Crockets Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, with alterations from the 18th century and extensive restoration and additions in the late 20th century. It is constructed of brick laid in Flemish bond and features a hipped tile roof, with renewed tiles on the returns and rear, as well as a central brick valley stack and repaired lateral stacks.

The garden front of the farmhouse is two storeys high, with a cellar and attic, and has a three-window range. The centre of the facade projects forward under a pedimental gable, which is adorned with a finely moulded top brick cornice, a string course, and some vitrified headers. The central window is a modern bow window with a tile roof, while the other windows are three-light leaded casements, with segmental-headed windows on the ground floor. The gable features a segmental-headed window with a two-light casement. Changes in the brickwork indicate alterations to the fenestration, likely occurring in the 18th century.

On the left return, there is a modern bow window to the left of centre, with a three-light casement above it. A tall hipped roof dormer is present, with a gablet to the left that may have once housed a stack, and a moulded brick stack to the right joined to the roof by a gablet. The right return has a modern lean-to porch that extends to the rear as a single-storey wing, featuring a wide entrance recess and modern windows, with a modern entrance to the right end and a two-light casement above, along with a moulded stack to the left. The rear includes a segmental-headed entrance to the left of centre, along with modern single-storey and two-storey additions.

Inside, the farmhouse is noted for having chamfered spine beams, two-panel and plank doors, flagged and wide-board floors, and two open fireplaces, as well as an early 19th-century fireplace in the left bedroom. The original roof structure remains, with valleys on either side of the central stack. A diagonal corner beam in the entrance hall suggests there may have been a second corner stack on the right side of the house.
