Description

Mary's Cottage and Old Toft form a house, originally part of a row, built in the mid-17th century in Fenny Compton. The building is constructed of regular coursed ironstone, with a concrete tile roof and brick end stacks. It’s arranged with a four-unit baffle-entry plan and has two storeys and an attic, with a four-window front.

Old Toft, on the left-hand side, features an entrance at its left end, incorporating a bolection moulded doorway and a door of diagonal planks with old strap hinges. The entrance to Mary's Cottage is located at the rear. The ground-floor windows of Old Toft are stone-mullioned, with alternating windows of three and two lights, each featuring a hood mould. The second bay has a late 20th-century casement window and a concrete lintel. First-floor windows are smaller than those on the ground floor. Old Toft has late 20th-century skylights. At the rear, Mary’s Cottage has a plank door and late 19th-century casement windows with painted wood lintels. A large, late 20th-century dormer is visible on the rear of Old Toft.

Inside Old Toft, there’s a large open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer.
