Description

Rushbrook Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse with additions and alterations, including 19th-century window replacements and a porch and windows added around 1980. The timber frame is now covered with whitewashed pebbledash. A brick ridge stack sits off-centre to the right, and the roof is covered in plain tiles. The building was likely originally three rooms arranged around a lobby entrance, with an outshut and further ranges built to the rear.

The exterior is two storeys high with a three-window front. A plank door is located to the left of centre, protected by a glazed porch. On the ground floor, from left to right, are a three-light casement window, followed by two pairs of ogee-headed casement windows, all with glazing bars. The first floor has matching windows. The right gable end has two two-light casement windows with glazing bars; the ground floor window is set under an elliptical arch and the first floor has an external latch. Visible original features include wall plate ends and two original purlins. An outshut extends to the rear, under a catslide roof.

The interior retains small square panels of timber framing to what was formerly the rear wall. An exposed plinth and sole plate are also visible. The right-hand room contains an inglenook fireplace with a bressumer beam. The roof above the left partition wall preserves a queen post truss. Exposed collar beams and framing are present in the right gable end wall. The rear left range of the roof contains two curved principals and a collar beam, along with further raised rafters and purlins.
