Description

Two houses, located on Main Road in Binton, date from the 17th or 18th century, with later alterations. The houses are built of coursed blue lias rubble with brick dressings, and have thatched and tile roofs. Brick end and cross-axial stacks are present. The plan is based on three units.

The exterior is single storey with an attic. There is a three-window range. The left end, number 171, has a tile roof and features an entrance and ground-floor windows set under cambered stone arches. It includes a 20th-century small-paned casement window and a half-glazed door. Number 172 has a central entrance with a 20th-century hipped canopy, and a door flanked by one 2-light window on either side, all under brick segmental heads, with 20th-century metal casements. The first floor has three late 19th-century gabled dormers with tile roofs and 20th-century casements. A first-floor opening is blocked to the left of centre. Roofs are gabled. The right return has an entrance with a plank door and a small first-floor window.

Inside number 171, there are chamfered beams, a fireplace with a bressumer, and wide-boarded cupboards to the left with strap hinges.
