Description

Wyvern, Wolds Cottage and Barn Cottage is a 17th-century barn, subsequently converted into three dwellings. It is located approximately 25 metres southwest of The Wolds, which is not included in the listing. The barn has undergone alterations in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. The original structure is timber-framed with brick infill, and a 19th-century brick range extends to the rear. The roof is tiled, renewed on Wolds Cottage, with brick ridges and internal stacks. The barn is a 4-bay structure forming an L-shaped plan around a former threshing floor entrance in the centre. The left end was probably altered in the 19th century, with the addition of two chimneys. The single-storey building has an attic and an 8-window range. There are two entrances with 20th-century doors and open porches, and several 20th-century windows, including five gabled dormers. The timber framing is a heavy 3-panel-high square framing. The left return features a half-hipped gable, a lateral stack with two stop-chamfered shafts, and a projection displaying an exposed truss. The rear elevation includes a gabled wing to the right end and four gabled dormers. The interior was not inspected.
