Description

Codborough Barn at Leasowes Farm is a field barn and cow sheds, likely built in the early 18th century, with some restorations made in the late 20th century. The barn is timber-framed with brick nogging, while the cow sheds are constructed from reddish-brown brick. Both structures feature gabled roofs covered with plain tiles, which have been partially renewed. The layout is L-shaped, consisting of a 3-bay barn and a 4-bay cow shed located at the rear.

On the exterior, the barn has small square panels of timber framing with tension braces. There is an off-centre entrance that retains the remains of plank doors, along with an opening to the left that has a plank cover. Diamond-shaped breathers are also present. The rear of the barn features an outshut with a catslide roof. The cow sheds at the back are supported by three brick piers at the front.

Inside the barn, there are cross-frames over the threshing floor, an original collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts and lower angle struts, and clasped purlins on the left side. The right side has a collar and tie-beam truss with lower angle struts and clasped principals, along with two tiers of trenched purlins. The cow sheds contain two pegged tie-beam trusses with angle struts and clasped principals, trenched purlins, and an original ridge piece, rafters, and wind braces, all made from roughly-hewn timbers. All the listed buildings at Leasowes Farm are part of a group.
