Description

Fletcher Cottage is one of two cottages forming a row, located on Park Lane in Great Alne. The cottages date to the 17th century, with No.2 being wholly of that period and Fletcher Cottage partly rebuilt in the 19th century. Further alterations occurred in the 20th century. The cottages are timber-framed with lath and plaster infill, and in the case of Fletcher Cottage, some whitewashed brick. No.2 is faced in colourwashed brick, while Fletcher Cottage features some brick refacing with painted simulated timber framing. Both cottages have tile roofs, with brick external and internal stacks.

Fletcher Cottage has a two-unit plan, while No.2 has a single-unit plan. They each have one storey and an attic, with a single-window range to front. No.2 features a half-glazed door set within a brick segmental arch. Both cottages have late 20th-century metal casement windows, with No.2 possessing a half-dormer. An internal stack is located at the rear of No.2. Fletcher Cottage has two 20th-century ground floor windows with glazing bars, and a small 19th-century casement on the first floor. The left return side of Fletcher Cottage displays a large brick external stack and some exposed timber framing. The cottage also has a 20th-century door and casements.

Inside, both cottages reveal exposed timber framing. No.2 has an ogee stop-chamfered ceiling beam, an old plank door, and winder stairs.
