Description
This is a row of five headstones located approximately 17 meters north of the porch of the Church of St. Peter and St. Clare in Fenny Compton. These headstones date from the late 17th century and are made of carved ironstone.
From left to right, the first headstone is dated 1680 and features a shaped moulded top with five scroll finials and a moulded rectangular panel. The second headstone has a simple scroll top and panel, also from the late 17th century. The third headstone, dated 1683, has a shaped moulded top with three scroll finials and a moulded rectangular panel, along with a scrolled pediment that includes a cartouche. The fourth headstone displays a winged head, festoon, and large cartouche, while the fifth headstone features a moulded segmental top, winged head, and foliage scrolls, with a rectangular panel and cable-twist shafts.
These headstones are included for their group value.
